Ontario Should Lower Colon Cancer Screening Age Even Further, Say Patients and Advocates The decision to lower the colon cancer screening age in Ontario from 50 to 45 is a step forward, but it may not be enough to prevent what patients are calling an epidemic of young people being diagnosed with this deadly disease.
People under 50 are two to two and a half times more likely to be diagnosed than their predecessors.
The Ministry of Health cites existing policies and programs aimed at reducing the risk of colon cancer through early detection, but these efforts do not address why young people are getting diagnosed in the first place.
